Test: Do I suffer from jealousy?

Do you know these situations? Your partner is chatting unusually animatedly with an old friend at the party, or your partner is once again working overtime even though she doesn't really have much to do? No one is immune to jealousy — the question is only how strong it is and how we deal with it.

Signs of potentially problematic jealousy:

  • constant monitoring of the partner (phone, emails, location),
  • intense negative feelings about harmless social contacts of the partner,
  • frequent accusations and mistrust without any concrete reason,
  • restricting the partner's social contacts,
  • excessive rumination about possible infidelity.

A certain degree of jealousy is normal and can even serve as a warning signal that helps us nurture the relationship. However, when jealousy takes over and burdens the relationship, it can become a serious problem in need of professional help.

Jealousy Test: 10 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Do you closely watch your partner to see whether they are flirting with others or receiving special attention?

2. Do you often compare yourself with others and feel inferior?

3. Do you have difficulty spending time alone and feel uncomfortable without your partner?

4. Do you quickly assume your partner loves you less when they're in a bad mood?

5. Do you take part in activities only to prevent your partner from going somewhere alone?

6. Do you often argue with your partner because you accuse them of infidelity?

7. Are you tense when your partner goes out alone because you fear they might cheat?

8. Do you check up on your partner by phoning them or spying on them?

9. Do you believe that your partner being late is a sign of infidelity?

10. Do you secretly search through your partner's pockets, emails or phone to make sure they are honest?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
