Test: Fear of Blushing (Erythrophobia)

Are you afraid of blushing? Do you fear situations in which you might turn red? Our test helps you assess whether you may be suffering from erythrophobia.

Typical signs of erythrophobia can include:

  • intense fear of blushing in social situations,
  • avoidance of situations in which one might blush,
  • strong discomfort at the mere thought of possibly blushing.

With this test you can reflect on how strongly the fear of blushing is influencing your life. Please note that this test does not replace a professional diagnosis.

Fear of Blushing Test: 10 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Do you avoid situations where you fear you might turn red in the face?

2. Do you feel uncomfortable or ashamed when you blush?

3. Do you believe your blushing leads others to respect or like you less?

4. Do you often imagine how embarrassing it would be to turn red in particular moments?

5. Do you think your blushing is the reason others might avoid you?

6. Do you frequently monitor yourself to make sure you don't blush?

7. Do you avoid public appearances or activities where you might be the centre of attention?

8. Do you often try to hide your blushing — for example, with make-up or clothing?

9. Do you believe your blushing is a sign that others can see your insecurity?

10. Do you feel that your blushing prevents you from openly expressing your wishes or opinions?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
