Test: Procrastination and Avoidance Behaviour

Do you ask yourself: "Why do I always start important tasks at the last moment?", "Is my procrastination still normal, or has it become a problem?" or "How can I break the vicious cycle of putting things off?" These questions trouble many people, because procrastination is more than ordinary hesitation.

Do you recognise yourself in these situations?

  • You know exactly what needs to be done but keep finding reasons to delay it?
  • You spend a lot of time on unimportant activities while important tasks pile up?
  • You feel bad about procrastinating but cannot change the behaviour?
  • You work best under time pressure and often wait until the very last minute?

This test helps you assess whether your procrastination has already taken on problematic features and which psychological factors may play a role.

Procrastination Test: 15 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Do you often put off tasks you do not feel like doing?

2. Do you only tackle tasks once the pressure is high enough?

3. Do you find it hard to motivate yourself for genuinely important work?

4. Do you postpone tasks when you are not sure how to solve them?

5. Do you often misjudge how much time a task will take?

6. Do you abandon tasks that turn out to be difficult?

7. Do you avoid tasks you cannot solve perfectly?

8. Do you find it hard to praise yourself, even when you have done good work?

9. Do you reproach yourself for postponing things again and again?

10. Do you have trouble saying no to others?

11. Do you dislike it when others tell you what to do?

12. Do you find most of the tasks you have to handle unpleasant?

13. In the evening, do you often find that you have not finished much of what you intended?

14. Do you find it hard to follow through on the things you have planned?

15. Do you often feel pressure because there are tasks you still need to finish?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
