Test: Exam Anxiety and Test Stress

Do you ask yourself: "Why do I freeze up during exams?", "Is my test anxiety normal or already pathological?" or "How can I better cope with the stress before and during exams?" These questions trouble many people, because test anxiety can significantly impair performance.

Do you recognise yourself in these situations?

  • You have trouble sleeping before important exams?
  • Your heart races and you sweat profusely during exams?
  • You experience blackouts even though you are well prepared?
  • You cannot concentrate despite sufficient preparation?

This test helps you assess whether your test anxiety has reached a distressing level and which psychological factors may play a role.

Test Anxiety Test: 15 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Do you often imagine yourself failing in the exam situation?

2. Do you worry that of all things, the topics you have not prepared will be tested?

3. Do you feel that you absolutely must pass the exam, no matter what?

4. Do you tend to lose yourself in other tasks to avoid studying?

5. Do you frequently interrupt your exam preparation and look for distractions?

6. Do you keep postponing the start of studying so that you do not have to face the anxiety?

7. Do you sometimes study without breaks until you feel exhausted?

8. During preparation, do you feel that you cannot remember anything?

9. Have you ever skipped an exam out of fear?

10. Do you use sedatives or alcohol to relax before exams?

11. During exams, do you often have problems concentrating or experience mental blocks?

12. Before or during the exam, do you suffer from physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, or stomach problems?

13. Do you fear failing the exam due to a blackout or other problems?

14. Have you ever abandoned an exam because the anxiety was overwhelming?

15. Do you believe that your previous negative exam experiences will repeat themselves over and over?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
