Test: Assessing the Need for Therapy

Do you ask yourself: "Would psychotherapy be right for me?", "Are my psychological burdens still normal or already in need of treatment?" or "How do I find out whether I need professional help?" These questions matter, and asking them is the first step towards engaging with your own mental health.

Do you recognise yourself in these situations?

  • You often feel low or low on energy?
  • Your thoughts and worries interfere with your daily life?
  • You feel that there is no one you can talk to about your problems?
  • Coping strategies that used to work no longer help?

This test offers a first assessment of whether psychotherapeutic support could be helpful for you.

Psychotherapy Test: 15 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Do you feel that you can no longer cope with your current problems on your own?

2. Do you often feel sad, empty, or despairing?

3. Have you recently had trouble managing your daily life?

4. Do you feel that your worries and fears significantly restrict your life?

5. Do you experience sleep problems triggered by worries or rumination?

6. Have you recently withdrawn from friends or family?

7. Do you often feel overwhelmed or crushed by stress?

8. Do you feel that negative experiences from the past still weigh heavily on you?

9. Do you feel little joy in things that used to make you happy?

10. Do you suffer from physical complaints with no medical cause?

11. Do you often feel worthless or not good enough?

12. Do you find it hard to handle conflicts or difficult situations?

13. Do you sometimes have thoughts that life no longer makes sense?

14. Have others pointed out that you might need professional support?

15. Have you already considered starting psychotherapy but not yet been able to take the step?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
