Test: Social Phobia and Social Withdrawal

Do you ask yourself: "Why do I feel so uncomfortable in social situations?", "Is my social anxiety normal or pathological?" or "How can I cope better with my fear of people?" These questions matter, because social anxieties can severely restrict daily life.

Do you recognise yourself in these situations?

  • You avoid social situations out of fear of being judged negatively?
  • You experience physical symptoms such as a racing heart or sweating in social situations?
  • You fear being at the centre of attention?
  • You are afraid of embarrassing yourself or being conspicuous?

This test helps you assess whether your social anxieties have reached a level requiring treatment and which psychological factors may play a role.

Social Anxiety Test: 15 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Are you often afraid of being judged or criticised negatively by others?

2. Do you avoid situations in which you could be the centre of attention?

3. Do you fear speaking in public or presenting in front of others?

4. Are you afraid of behaving awkwardly or embarrassingly in social situations?

5. Do you avoid meeting new people because you fear they might think badly of you?

6. Do you feel uncomfortable or tense in group situations, such as events?

7. Do you have trouble eating in restaurants or cafés when others are watching?

8. Do you avoid attending parties or large social events?

9. Do you experience physical symptoms such as a racing heart, sweating, or trembling in social situations?

10. Before a social encounter, do you think intensively about everything that could go wrong?

11. Do you feel that your fears significantly affect your private or professional life?

12. Do you avoid professional opportunities or career chances out of fear of social interactions?

13. Does the mere thought of meeting other people already trigger unrest or anxiety?

14. Do you have trouble maintaining eye contact during conversations out of fear of how you might come across?

15. Do you take sedatives or drink alcohol to get through social situations?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
