Test: Coping With and Processing a Breakup

Do you ask yourself: "How well am I coping with the breakup?", "Is my grief still normal?" or "When will I feel better again?" These questions matter, because a breakup is one of the most stressful life experiences and takes time to process.

Do you recognise yourself in these situations?

  • You constantly think about the past relationship and your ex-partner?
  • You find it hard to focus on daily life?
  • You feel torn between anger, sadness, and hope?
  • You doubt yourself and your future?

This test helps you assess how well you are coping with the breakup and which aspects of processing it may still need more attention.

Breakup Test: 15 Questions

All questions refer to the last 14 days. The answer options are scaled like a grading system — the first option counts as one point, the last as five. Choose one answer per question and click Evaluate Now at the end.

1. Do you often feel sad or lost because of the breakup?

2. Do you often think about your former partner and what you could have done differently?

3. Do you find it hard to engage with new activities or hobbies?

4. Do you feel that you have not yet fully accepted the breakup?

5. Do you often feel lonely and miss the time you used to spend with your former partner?

6. Do you tend to blame mostly yourself for the end of the relationship?

7. Do you often compare new acquaintances or potential partners with your ex?

8. Do you find it hard to imagine a future without your former partner?

9. Do you feel that the breakup has damaged your self-worth?

10. Do you often feel angry or disappointed about the breakup?

12. Do you have trouble building new social contacts or maintaining old friendships?

13. Do you often think you cannot be happy without your ex?

14. Do you feel emotionally drained or exhausted since the breakup?

15. Are you afraid of being hurt again in the future or of starting a new relationship?

This online screening is not a diagnostic tool. Only a trained medical professional — such as a doctor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist — can advise you on the next steps.
